Mrs. Davis and family of Beth Cummings

Upon the completion of a Geometry unit of study, Mrs. Brooke Davis' 6th Grade Math classes put their newly learned skills to real life use.  Her students were divided into teams.  They designed, planned, and created blue prints for a Buddy Bench.  Buddy Benches are found on campuses across the US.  The concept is that students who are feeling lonely or disconnected from friends can sit at the Buddy Bench during recess.  Sitting on the Buddy Bench is a signal to other students that they need a friend.  Students who recognize this come and join them.  It is a wonderful opportunity to create kindness and compassion in our students.  Upon the completion of the Buddy Benches being built, our 6th grade students donated one of the three to Riverview Judsonia Elementary in memory of Beth Cummings, the teacher who passed away last school year.  Judsonia Elementary declared it as Beth Cummings' Day.  WCC and Judsonia 6th grade students spent time together talking about the project, their teacher, and making friendships.  They enjoyed lunch together during this time.  We are proud of the giving heart of our teachers and students!  #BearPride
